This Week in NixOS, Week 35 2025
Aug 31, 2025Keeping the streak up, here's the fourth week of This Week In NixOS.
Lix Governance
The Lix project has published a new page detailing their governance model. This seems like a great way forward to formalize how the project works.
Cons
Nix Vegas talks are live!
The Nix Vegas @ Def Con 33 talks are out now! You can find them on YouTube or self-hosted in an Immich instance along with some some pictures from the event.
NixCon 2025
NixCon 2025 is almost upon us! Together with NixCon, various side events/quests will also take place organized by the attendees. You can find more information on the GitHub repo.
Misc
Fetch from savannah
@normalcea opened a new PR in nixpkgs that deprecates fetchFromSavannah
.
nix-manipulator
@hoh announced a new project, nix-manipulator, a python library and CLI to parse and modify Nix code files. You can find it on GitHub.
Karl Voit's post about their issues with NixOS
Karl wrote a blog post about their experience with NixOS and the things they didn't like about it and the parts of NixOS that failed them. I don't share most of their views, but I think it's a good idea to learn what doesn't work for other people and see if we can fix it.
No TWIN next week
Since I'll be at NixCon 2025 next week, I won't have the time to post a TWIN on Sunday. If you're at NixCon, please say hi if you see me. Moreover, if you're interested in learning how NixOS is built, I have a talk on Saturday about this topic!
